A Message from the Conductor
As this is written, we’ll be hitting the four-year mark in our short history. I’d characterize our coming of
age not as growing pains, but rather growing progress.
In short, the
band is doing very well, thank you. The sound of the band is maturing, while the pleasure of participating with a bunch of
great folks continues unabated.
Some milestones in our development: - Third
straight year of support from the city’s wonderful McKinney Arts Commission.
- Invaluable support from the McKinney Independent School District.
- Growth in the number of musicians and our ensemble sound.
- Development of the McKinney Community Band Dance Band and the McKinney Community
Band Flute Choir.
- First ever Dance Band “Band
Camp.”
- Modernization of our library and
its procedures with approximately 150 arrangements, some originals, plus several dozen pieces for Dance Band and Flutes.
- Advance schedule of three 2010 concerts in the McKinney
Performing Arts Center.
- Numerous other concert
appearances in the community.
- Membership in
Association of Concert Bands.
- Continued Board
of Directors development and further matching of talents with tasks.
What’s
ahead? We still have openings in several sections, especially brass and percussion. I’m confident the instrumental musicians
who find us will continue to fill our ranks.
It’s the most fun you can have for a dollar-a-week dues!
See you at the next concert!
Our
next performance is an exciting second joint venture with the North Texas Chapter of the Association of Theatre Organists
Society at the McKinney Performing Arts Center in historic downtown McKinney, Texas. Join us for THE
LOW DOWN ON HIGH BROW on Saturday,
September 18, 2010, at 7:30 p.m.
